About
Eminent Maithili folk singer Mrs. Vibha Jha was born in Ugna Mahadev Sthan, Pandoal, in Madhubani district. Deeply attached to her mother tongue, she embraced Maithili folk music as her life’s calling. She holds an M.A. from Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga, and is a “Sangeet Prabhakar” in classical music. Along with singing, she is a gifted writer whose articles have appeared in leading journals such as Shyama Sandesh, Mithila Darpan, Vidyapati Times, and Mithila Awaaz.
In recognition of her dedication, she was honoured with the “Mithila Ratna” award by Vidyapati Seva Sansthan during the International Maithili Conference at Deoghar in 2024, followed by the “Mithila Seva Samman” from the Maithili Lok Sanskriti Manch, Laheriasarai, in 2025. These honours are not merely awards, but symbols of gratitude and pride for the entire Maithil community.
A familiar presence at Darbhanga’s historic Shyama Temple, she performs regularly at the monthly bhajan sandhya and during the ten-day nawah yajna, where her devotional singing creates a deep spiritual resonance. Her voice carries the pathos, faith, joy, and inner bliss of Maithil life, illuminating the timeless cultural heritage of Mithila through her songs.
