01
We gather songs from people who carry them in their hearts, from old books that hold forgotten verses, and from recordings that capture voices across time.
02
Once we have a song, we transcribe it exactly as it's sung - honoring the way words bend and flow in actual performance rather than forcing them into grammatical correctness.
03
Every song is then translated and contextualized, so you understand not just what it means, but when it's sung, why it matters, and what emotions it carries.
04
We verify the authenticity of both lyrics and melodies through cross-referencing and community feedback, ensuring that what we share stays true to how these songs live in the world.
Transliteration
To make these songs accessible across generations and geographies, we transcribe each one in its native script - faithfully recording how it is sung, rather than correcting it to fit grammatical norms. Every song is also available in Roman script.
"We’ve chosen the IAST system for transliteration with minor modifications of some letters to make them easily readable. IAST provides one of the most accurate Hindi-to-Roman transliteration, maintaining a one-to-one correspondence between Devnagari and Roman characters, and preserving all the phonemic distinctions that are often lost in other systems. It is also an internationally recognized scholarly standard, ensuring consistency across academic work."
