About Mithila

Mithila is an ancient cultural region stretching across north Bihar in India and parts of Nepal. Famed as the birthplace of Sita and the kingdom of Raja Janaka from the Ramayana, it is a land steeped in history, art, and tradition. Known for its soulful folk songs, vibrant festivals, and world-renowned Madhubani paintings, Mithila has long been called the “land of scholars.” Home to the great poet Vidyapati and touched by the lives of Buddha and Mahavir, Mithilanchal remains a cradle of wisdom and cultural heritage.
