Alongside valor and devotion, Mithila’s oral tradition includes ballads of yog , mythology, and the mystical. Yog gathas depict renunciation and detachment, as in the tales of Gopichand and Raja Bharthari. Magic ballads describe sorcery and supernatural powers, while love ballads tell moving stories of affection and separation. Other themes include mythology, rebirth, worship, and fate, with prominent stories like Lav–Kush and Nayaka Banjara.
