Prem Gathā are narrative folk-song traditions of Mithila where attraction, struggle, and the union of the lover and beloved form the core theme. While other gathās mention love incidentally, Prem Gathā centre entirely on the lovers’ journey - overcoming obstacles through battle, disguise, or steadfast devotion, as seen in stories like Sārangā–Sadāvriksha or Raja Aheri. These ballads are referenced in scholarly works, yet most remain undocumented in digital form. Preserving and recording these fading narratives is essential before they disappear.
