Song Description
In the Mithila wedding tradition, every bride performs Gauri Puja before and after her marriage. In this ritual, performed in the kohbar ghar, the bride is regarded as an image of Goddess Parvati and the bridegroom as an embodiment of Lord Shiva, so that their union is considered sacred and auspicious on both spiritual and worldly levels. In this song, Janaki’s friends invite her to Janak Bhavan after the wedding to perform the Gauri Puja along with Ram. The song gives a sequential description of the offerings—her friends urge the bride to quickly bring the seat and throne, flowers, bel-patra leaves, incense, naivedya (food offering), water, and sindoor to present to Goddess Gauri. The song likens every Mithila Vivāh to the divine unions of Shiva–Parvati and Rama–Sita, seeking sacred blessings for the couple.
