Song Description

This song belongs to the time of the baraat’s (wedding procession’s) departure. In earlier days, when marriages took place at a young age and women rarely accompanied the procession, mothers would worry deeply about their beloved sons. In this song a mother’s anxiety is evident: watching the baraat leave from a high window, she laments that her dear son is going alone. Neighbouring women comfort her, assuring her that many companions—brothers, nephews, father, brothers-in-law—are all riding on elephants and horses along with the groom.
