Song Description
Sohar songs are sung to celebrate childbirth, and often allude to the births of Krishna or Rama. This particular song vividly portrays both the pain of childbirth and the joy that follows. It begins with concern for the fragile young mother enduring labor pains, and then shifts to the family’s elation at the newborn’s arrival—where the sister-in-law playfully demands a reward, and the jubilant husband, overwhelmed with happiness, longs to give away his wealth across all of Ayodhya.
