jhārakhaṇḍ me jā kaऽ dānī - 2 kia basal chhī yau,

binatī sunayau yau ।
yau bholā kia rusal chhī yau ।

kusheshvar videshar gelahun ,
katau nahi bheṭalahun yau। - 2
rane-bane tāki kaऽ baisalahun - 2
taiyo nahi bheṭalahun yau ।
yau bholā kia rusal chhī yau ।

dukhahi janam bhel dukhahi gamāol,

Song Description

This is a Nachari—a devotional song from Mithila in which the devotee expresses his helplessness, pain, and longing before Shiva. Here, he addresses his beloved Mahadev Bhola with affection and gentle reproach, speaking with the intimacy of someone who knows that he has a claim on the Lord’s compassion. He asks, “O Bholenath, why are you angry with me? Why have you left me and made Jharkhand your home?”—a reference to Deoghar. “You have saved so many sinners and suffering souls, so why have you left me behind? Please see me through too. Just listen to my prayer once.” “I searched for you at Kusheshwar Sthan and Bideshwar Sthan, but I could not find you anywhere. I looked for you in forests and along lonely paths, yet you did not appear.” “My life began in sorrow and has passed in sorrow. All my life, I have carried a heavy bundle of troubles on my head. Now, please hold my hand. The wishes of my heart have remained buried within me. Apart from you, whom can I share my pain with?” In the end, he declares with quiet resolve, “I will not leave your door until you listen to me.”
