Song Description

In Mithila, every auspicious occasion or ritual begins with an invocation to Ganapati — and this bhajan is a living expression of that tradition. The devotee invites Ganapati with reverence: "O Gajanan Ganapati, whether in meditation or worship, you are given the first place — please come and take your seat." The bhajan goes on to describe Ganesh's divine form. He is the son of Mother Parvati, with a large belly, a radiant forehead, and a face that radiates grace. He is the remover of obstacles, the giver of success, the one-tusked deity, and the beloved son of Shiva. Riddhi and Siddhi grace his side. Dressed in yellow garments, he sits upon a golden lotus, with the mouse as his vehicle. Even gods such as Indra, Varuna, and Kubera stand bowed at his door. The devotee prays: "O compassionate one, remove our obstacles and shower the world with blessings." In the end, with humility, they say that they are ignorant and do not have the ability to fully describe his glory. They simply bow their heads at his feet every day.
