Rajni Pallavi
About
Eminent singer, Rajni Pallavi was born in Pilkhabar, a village in Madhubani district, the very heart of Mithila. Recognizing her deep love for music, her family encouraged her to pursue it, and she went on to earn a Master's degree in Hindustani Classical Music.
Rajni is passionate about Maithili language and Mithila culture, and she has devoted her artistic talents to the revival of Maithili folk music in its truest form. She records popular folk songs with fresh arrangements and shares them widely on YouTube, with the intention of making quality music accessible to a wider audience.
She is also deeply committed to preserving the immortal works of Mahakavi Vidyapati. Recording both celebrated and lesser-known compositions of the legendary poet, she sets them to music while making their lyrical meanings available online—ensuring his legacy remains accessible to future generations.
Rajni is also a proponent of modernizing Maithili music so that younger generations can connect with it more naturally. Collaborating with contemporary poets and experimenting with modern instruments, she has created new Maithili songs that have been warmly received by listeners worldwide.
Beyond Maithili, Rajni Pallavi is deeply drawn to Ghazals and Semi-Classical music. Many of her ghazals are available online, and she is currently working on setting to music some rarely-heard verses of Ghalib.
Beyond her creative pursuits, Rajni runs a music academy in Bangalore, where she fulfills her role as a custodian of classical tradition by training the next generation of musicians.
Her heartfelt appeal to her listeners is simple: Support this ancient heritage. Appreciate meaningful songs, poetry, and Mithila paintings. Spread them widely, and reject the careless distortion of Maithili in the name of culture.
