Tājiyā
Tājiyā
This community dance-song begins a few days before Muharram, performed mainly by Muslim men standing in a circle. Holding bamboo jharari, they sing in a call-and-response style, moving with rhythmic strikes, gentle bends, and circular steps. The harmony of melody, movement, and beat creates such an inviting atmosphere that many Hindu youth also join in. These songs echo the poignant valor of Hasan and Husain. Tajiya songs are also known as Jharni and Marsiya.
