Sāmā-chakebā
Sama-Chakeva is a festival celebrated in the Mithila region during the month of Kartik, beginning on Kartik Shukla Panchami and concluding on Kartik Purnima. It centres around the story of Sama, daughter of Lord Krishna, who was falsely accused of infidelity and cursed to become a bird. Her husband Chakeva, upon discovering the truth, chose to become a bird as well. Their sorrow moved Sama’s brother Samb, who with his devotion and prayers to Lord Vishnu was able to restore them to human form. The story, mentioned in the Skand Purana, symbolises sibling love and the triumph of truth over falsehood.
