Gosaunik Geet are devotional songs sung in praise of the Goddess. In Mithila, any auspicious occasion traditionally begins with these songs. Most people here are worshippers of Shakti—the divine feminine—and in almost every home, the household shrine (gehbar) includes the presence of Gosāun.These songs praise the many forms of the Goddess—Kali, Durga, Bhagwati—and give voice to the devotee’s prayers for her blessings, protection, and the removal of obstacles from life.
