Bārahamāsā
Bārahamāsā
Barahamaasa songs portray the emotions of twelve months, their sweetness felt most deeply during the monsoon when farmers sing while planting paddy. In Mithila, they also depict Rama, Krishna, and Shiva. The Rama–Sita songs celebrate love, marriage, and family life; the Krishna songs express longing, romance, and playful affection; while the Shiva songs reflect everyday domestic life—coming of age, marriage, and the warmth of family bonds. Together, they capture the changing moods of love, longing, and life through the rhythm of the seasons.
