Kanchan Jha - her singing reflects the authentic style of Maithil women

Kanchan Jha

About

Kanchan Jha hails from Lagma village in Saharsa district, Bihar, and now lives in Adityapur, Jamshedpur. Music has been an inseparable part of her life since childhood. Her father Ramakant Thakur was a devoted music lover, skilled in several instruments, and often sang at village spiritual gatherings. Her mother Sushila Devi, herself a talented Maithili singer, taught Kanchan many traditional songs. Growing up in this rich musical environment, Kanchan naturally developed both a gift for singing and a deep affection for the folk traditions of Mithila.

Balancing household responsibilities and the care of her children, Kanchan Jha continues to keep these timeless melodies alive. She remains deeply committed to the traditions and songs she has inherited. Her singing reflects the authentic style of Maithil women—the true custodians of this cultural heritage.
